Comedian by Maurizio Cattelan

While there has been much current news and discussion of Cattelan's piece 'Comedian' I found this NYT article to be the most comprehensive in asking the underlying questions of why this work gained so much attention. It reminded me of our many discussions in class - particularly in the relation to the conversation of monetary value.

I especially found this quote
"The banana should be seen in the context of this earlier work, which places the art market itself on the wall, drooping and pitiful." regarding Cattelan's critique of the art market to be relevant to our in class debates and discussion of the gallery market.
