Color Psychology

As UPenn students, we attend a rich research environment. As such, we also have access to some great research paper sources. This paper was published by Annual Reviews. It looks at a multitude of papers regarding certain subjects. This one happens to be on a pertinent subject. It must be prefaced that the field of psychology is a controversial one, for its topics are difficult to tackle, and its methodologies can be difficult to quantify. That being said, this review puts together some interesting empirical data regarding colors and how we perceive them. Two large topics studied were the effects of colors in sports, as well as psychological perception of skin color. Some examples of perception are the association of red with failure, the use of red in some countries boosting athletic performance, and referee bias for red.
