Perception through meaning

Reading the first chapter of Dondis's A Primer of Visual Literacy made me think about my perception of my own art in regards to both aesthetics and meaning. His discussion on the relationship between different aspects of art made me think about my feelings towards some of the snapshots I took earlier this year in my home city of Edinburgh, before moving to Philly. I've decided to share these particular images, since they were the ones that I regarded as 'bad' ones, because I was not satisfied with some of the visual aspects of them. Now, however, when I look at them, I realised, I enjoy them much more, or even like the result of my work. So, I came to realise how my intrinsic thought process regarding the meaning of them (now they suddenly represent a place I miss and somewhat long for) has changed my perception and, therefore the immediate emotional response to the images. The lesson for me then, just by changing the external factors of my life at the moment and thereby putting myself in a new psychological and emotional state can have real effect on how I perceive.
