Music Video Challenge: Eric Whitacre's Virtual Choir

In my last post, I made a promise that my next post would be about one of Eric Whitacre's compositions - "i thank You God for most this amazing day" (poem by e. e. Cummings).

But I have to break my promise because this composition does not have a music video associated with it. However, here is an interesting music video created by Whitacre for one of his songs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WhWDCw3Mng

"Sleep" is one of his most famous choral songs (he has an orchestral version of it too). In an attempt to use music to bring the world together, he sent a video of himself conducting the song and asked his fans to record themselves singing the song. He then stitched their recordings to create a virtual choir of singers from across the world.

Everyone who submitted a video is featured on their own sphere, which is then connected with others' spheres. The warm colorscape and blown-out lines and stars create a very ethereal atmosphere that is very reminiscent of Whitacre's repertoire as a whole.

I encourage everyone to watch the music video, but I also recommend closing our eyes and listening to it.

(A fun fact about myself: whenever I feel stressed, I lock myself in my windowless bathroom, sit in the dark, and just play "Sleep" while meditating - very calming.)
